Nyah - a tiny town about 20km north west of Swan Hill played host to our next stay. Our bush camping area abutted the open space of the local harness racing / footy oval on one side and hugged the Murray River on the other.
Although quite dusty, the camp ground was quiet and we had very few neighbours. The grey nomads next to us had been travelling for 2 years and were happy to impart some of their practical knowledge of van improvements and stories of 25 foot crocs up north!
The river was very silty but it didn't stop the kids and dogs playing in the boat wakes and testing their strength against the gentle current. At the boat ramp I was asked by the occupants of a small fishing boat if i had any medical skills - aparently they'd caught a couple of carp and snagged an ear during their outing! OUCH!!
We woke on Saturday to find a small local market was setting up near the playground. We bought a few goodies from the fresh produce stalls, a jar of yummy quince jelly (a treat for me) and the kids got some henna tattoos. What more could you ask fror!
Playing in the Mighty Murray
The water slide at the Swan Hill outdoor pool - cheapest fun you'll have in Victoria! The infrastructure was a bit '1960's' but so were the prices!
